Smart kitchen is an ingredient management system that brings life between the interactions of different kitchen tools
Imagine a future where the kitchen space is brought to life by the interaction of different kitchen tools. We are a team of 4 interaction designers. The concept puts forward the notion of animistic design. Based on their unique personalities, each kitchen tool reacts and collaborates to help users manage their food ingredients and minimize food waste.

the average U.S. household wasted 31.9% of its food. The total annual cost of the wasted food was estimated to be $240 billion or $1,866 per household.
Busy people can easily forget what ingredients they have left in the fridge, and the food can easily go bad. Additionally, people think throwing away food doesn’t mean much. All these causes contribute to this problem.

Future Kitchen
Because this project was completed 2 years ago, I aware that there is so much more it can improve. The future stage of the smart kitchen doesn't need smart objects anymore, the only thing it needs is the smart table. I can mode QR code under each item including cutting board, bowl, and container. The table surface is built by the glass so that the camera below can identify the item ID and trigger visuals and audio. Or we can use machine learning to train an AI to identify each item.
The smart system detects the object's position and distance and triggers interactions for ingredient management.
